ZINES

Johannes Gutenberg
The inspiration behind Gutenberg poems was to take all my rogue one liners and misfits from my notes app and put them out into existence. Because they’re so small I knew it wouldn’t be as much of a challenge to individually use letter stamps to print out these poems – however small they were, it was still a labor of love.

Trading Zines!
This year I had the pleasure of showcasing my work at the Pittsburgh Zine Fair. I met many wonderful creators and got to take home some really interesting pieces for my collection.

Binding
My larger zines are hand bound with an easy two-notch hole system and tied with a fun decorative bow. I like to reuse pretty scrap book paper for these.

Treasure
I really like to make a poem zine and leave it somewhere out in the open -- or a little library. Sometimes I manage to slip a little card in if the person wants to find my work on instagram.

Letters can be
other letters
Most poems are originals meaning there are no other reprints and there probably never will be. They live and die in these tiny handprint zines. & when it comes to zine making there’s almost this mechanical dance to it. You start to put certain letters near one another, the desk and your fingers get covered in smudges, the lower case N can be a U and P can be D so you start to muscle memory to know where some stamps are during a printing session, which changes every time.

Anything can be a printing press
if you press hard enough
majority of my stamps I picked up from GoodWill and consignment.

Send off!
I sign and date each small poem I create.

Try it out!
The last Zine event, I brought all my various stampers and let people make their very own bookmarks and small zines to take home. Due to the time consuming nature of the process I got to have some very cool conversations with other makers while they brainstormed.
